A CITY WE LOVE: PARIS
Considered by many to the epicentre of style and fashion, Paris has the reputation of being one the most glamorous cities in Europe, remaining completely French in character while at the same time being internationally cosmopolitan.
The city has been magnet for writers and artists for centuries, and it remains home to many world famous intellectual and artistic individuals and institutions.
Many of the most delightful attractions of Paris are found along the banks of the River Seine and of course in its streets and boulevards in which three HIGH stores can now be found.
We have made a tiny selection of places that inspire us…
As you might expect in a city that has inspired so many artists there are a number of studio/museums such as the Atelier Brancusi.
Constantin Brancusi produced most of his work in Paris and in his will; he bequeathed his entire studio to the French state.
The present reconstruction, completed in 1997 built by the architect Renzo Piano is situated on the piazza opposite the Centre Pompidou.
25 minutes from the new HIGH store in Rue Bonaparte is another artist’s space - The Musée Bourdelle. This unique range of exhibition areas includes both Bourdelle's original 19th century studios and Christian de Portzamparc's modern extension.
From the intimacy of Bourdelle's apartment to the immensity of the Great Hall full of plaster casts, visitors are free wander among the sculptor's work.
The artist Eugène Delacroix’s former apartment is now a unique museum space arranged as a creative homage by the greatest artists of the 1920s, including Maurice Denis, Paul Signac and Édouard Vuillard.
The collection boasts over a thousand artworks by Delacroix, paintings, drawings, prints, and writings, along with work by artists who admired him.
Near to HIGH at Galeries Lafayette Hausmann is one the most iconic of all French cultural Institutions, The Paris Opera.
Created by the architect Charles Garnier in 1875, the Opera Garnier houses the “Italian-style” auditorium, with its ceiling painted in 1964 by Marc Chagall, grand foyer and rotonde des abonnés. With nearly 480,000 visitors each year, it is one of Paris' most visited monuments
